“Low Life” set to begin filming in NYC

Posted by Jasmine on January 07, 2012

This week the New York City-based casting agency Grant Wilfley posted a casting call looking for various types to appear in scenes for The Untitled James Gray Project in the New York City area on February 1, 16 & 17, proof the movie will begin filming in NYC within the next few weeks.

The film, also referred to as Low Life, is about “an innocent immigrant woman (played by Marion Cotillard) is tricked into a life of burlesque and vaudeville until a dazzling magician tries to save her and reunite her with her sister who is being held in the confines of Ellis Island” and has already received a lot of buzz, partially because it is one of Joaquin Phoenix’s first films in a few years.

Recently, Collider asked Jeremy Renner, who also appears in the movie, why he took a part in the film. He said, “What a great opportunity. It’s an amazing story. It’s James Gray, Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix. That’s some of the best talent out there. It’s not an action movie, which at this point, from where I’m sitting, is a nice thing. I can actually take a break on my body and just focus on work and character. That’s refreshing. And, to work with that caliber of talent is really exciting. It’s a small role. It’s something I can shoot in a very short amount of time. There’s a pimp, a whore and a magician, and I get to play the magician, in a really cool, early 1900′s immigration movie about Ellis Island.”

His response also explains how he will shoot the movie in the middle of filming The Bourne Legacy.

MPI picks up ‘Little White Lies’

Posted by Jasmine on January 05, 2012

MPI Media Group has acquired all North American rights to Guillaume Canet’s hit dramedy “Little White Lies,” starring Marion Cotillard and Jean Dujardin.

French pic will be released theatrically in the first quarter, with DVD and VOD releases to follow.

Canet wrote and directed the film, which follows a group of longtime friends who reunite for their annual beach vacation despite a traumatic accident involving one of their own. During their seaside getaway, they all make discoveries about each other and are finally forced to own up to the little white lies they’ve been telling one another — and themselves.

Canet’s “Tell No One” star Francois Cluzet co-stars alongside Benoit Magimel, Anne Marivan, Gilles Lellouche, Laurent Lafitte, Valerie Bonneton, Pascale Arbillot and Louise Monot.

“Little White Lies” is a co-production of Les Productions du Tresor, EuropaCorp, Caneo Films and M6 Films. Pic has recorded a remarkable 5.3 million admissions in France.

“This movie has touched a nerve, and it’s easy to see why. Its wit, charm and humanity are universal, and we are thrilled to bring it to a wider audience,” said MPI exec VP Greg Newman, who negotiated the distribution deal with Cecile Fouche of EuropaCorp.

“Little White Lies” world preemed at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival and was an official selection at the BFI London Film Festival in 2010.
